Posts about social media and its impact on politics and communication.
I write about how a significant share of public and political debate has moved into the sphere of foreign social media giants. Meta and Google announced they would stop political advertising in the EU, and the platforms have scaled back content moderation and fact-checking. Whoever controls the algorithms controls the debate, and we have no guarantee they are not used deliberately. Open democracy rests on our ability to listen to each other across political lines.
