Council motions and posts about the work and decisions of Kirkkonummi municipal council.
My motions, made together with the Green Council Group, ask the municipality to turn the goals of its own strategy into concrete action. The first proposed flying the Pride flag every year during the national Pride week. The strategy promises equality and a safe, youth-friendly municipality, and rainbow youth report more loneliness, depression and discrimination than their peers. The flag costs the municipality very little, but it means a great deal to minority residents. The initiative was approved.
The second motion concerns digital resilience. Kirkkonummi relies on digital systems for nearly everything, from remote meetings to contact between school and home. We proposed that the municipality map its dependencies on information systems and digital companies outside Europe, prepare contingency plans for service outages and switch to open standards such as ODF and PDF/UA for sharing files. A full break is not realistic, but European services alongside current systems reduce the risk.
