Why is Lauri Lavanti running in the 2027 parliamentary election?
Because Finland must secure its digital independence in the age of AI. I am a Kirkkonummi municipal councillor and the Greens' candidate in the Uusimaa electoral district. I am one of the founders of the Digital Independence citizens' initiative, which will be submitted to parliament after the spring 2027 election so that the new parliament has time to consider it in full. I want to build a Finland that uses AI and technology on its own terms, where no one gets left behind.
What does digital independence mean?
It means that Finland decides on its own digital infrastructure, just as it decides on its own defence. It does not mean isolation, but building genuine domestic and European alternatives for when we need them. That way services stay up in good times and bad, and we have the power to decide where our data goes and who controls it. In my campaign, the economy, education and freedom come together in this one goal.
What expertise does Lauri Lavanti bring to parliament?
I hold an MSc from Aalto University and work as a lead developer, with more than 10 years of experience building secure software and banking services. Finland has spent decades building world-class technology, from Nokia to Linux and Supercell. AI opens a new chapter in that story, but it requires parliament to understand what the technology demands in practice. That is why I want public AI and digital procurement to be built open and portable.
